FR James provided both design and construction services for the remodel of this upper story flat in North Beach. Common to post-earthquake flats, this home had several small rooms which the owners wished to simplify and open up in order to provide more light and space to the residence.
We merged two bathrooms into one larger master bath and added entry and linen closets to improve storage. In the central hallway we raised the ceiling to create a comfortable transition to the bedrooms and kitchen. By reconfiguring the existing kitchen space we were able to add a pantry and breakfast area. Our addition of a skylight brought significantly more natural light to the cooking area.
By working closely with the project owners we found high quality finishes that worked with their budget. These included bordered oak as well as bamboo flooring, environmentally responsible cabinetry, Ceasarstone and granite countertops, and limestone bath tile with heat mats. Our ability to finish the project in four months and on schedule allowed us to meet a crucial deadline for the owners.
